We aim to develop a townscape that invites people to use urban spaces, shops and amenities in Steinkjer more frequently.
Our objective is to develop and implement a local TownLab framework that enables co-creation and experimentation, in order to achieve happier and healthier townscape and townspeople.
Stakeholders are citizens, students, volunteers, business owners, politicians and municipal officials. Stakeholders are encouraged to suggest actions, participate in data collection and so forth. Mobilizing people to participate is an important part of the project activity.

Public health acvisor Stine Strand, and public planner Antonios Bruheim Markakis have visited different locations, and gathered nearly 300 suggestions as to what can make the townscape better.
Four suggestions will be tested as “living lab experiments” this summer:
The mayor announced the winner of the popular vote (video in norwegian)

Cafés and restaurants at the town beach

Campaigns to make events in the town known to more people

Activities at the town beach

Place elements like plants and benches in the main street, which will invite people to socialize
We will keep you posted on how the experiments are coming along
